  • Draft Supplemental EA for repairs to Ponca backwater site available for comment

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment for repairs to the Ponca State Park backwater site in Dixon County, Neb. is currently available for public review. The EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damages that occurred to the chute during the 2011 Missouri River flood. These repairs are needed to restore the intended habitat function of the Ponca site and prevent it from degrading further. Comments are due August 26, 2015.
  • Draft environmental assessment for Upper Hamburg ditch repairs available for public review

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment for repairs to a ditch at the Upper Hamburg Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Otoe County, Nebraska along Missouri River miles 556 to 552 is currently available for public review. The draft supplemental EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing ditch damage that occurred during the 2011 Missouri River flood. Comments must be submitted by July 31, 2015.
  • Comments sought on Draft Supplemental EA for repairs to Nishnabotna Bend chute

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment for repairs to the Nishnabotna Bend chute in Nemaha County, Neb. is currently available for public review. The EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damages that occurred to the chute during the 2011 Missouri River flood. These repairs are needed to restore the intended habitat function of Nishnabotna Bend. Comments must be received by July 24, 2015.
  • Contract awarded to build shallow water habitat at Middle Decatur Bend, Burt Co., NE

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to Commercial Contractors Equipment, Inc., of Lincoln, Neb. for $1,747,090 to construct shallow water habitat at Middle Decatur Bend in Burt County, Neb. The project will be constructed on land owned by the Corps, and will result in the creation of 11 acres of shallow water habitat that is intended to benefit the federally endangered pallid sturgeon and other native fish and wildlife species.
  • Lake Yankton Water Festival set for Saturday, June 20

    The Lake Yankton Water Festival is set for Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Training Dike Recreation area near Yankton, SD. The event will have games, prizes, crafts, demonstrations, and a paddling clinic.
  • Public meeting scheduled on Deadman's Run flood risk management feasibility study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (NRD) and the city of Lincoln, will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the 4th Presbyterian Church, 5200 Francis Street, Lincoln, Neb. from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. describing the study followed by an open house. The purpose of the meeting is to gather input on the recently initiated Deadmans Run flood risk management feasibility study. Deadman’s Run is located primarily in northeast Lincoln.
  • Shell Creek levee construction project ribbon cutting event scheduled

    In partnership with the city of Schuyler, Neb. and the Lower Platte North Natural Resources District, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed construction of a 2.2-mile levee along Shell Creek, north and east of Schuyler. This milestone will be celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the site of the new levee along Old Highway 30 (now Road E) near East 22nd Street by the old drive-in movie theatre.
  • Winter ice access in ND comes with regulations and safety warnings

    The 2014-2015 winter access policy for North Dakota including Lake Sakakawea and Lake Audubon is now available. Jeff Keller, Natural Resource Manager at Williston, said, "Any winter activity performed on the ice can be hazardous. The Corps does not encourage or recommend driving on the ice at any time. Thin ice or open water may exist anywhere along the river or across the lake, and pressure ridges occur throughout the winter."
  • Final Fort Randall Master Plan Approved

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, Fort Randall Project’s newly revised Master Plan was recently approved by Col. Joel R. Cross, District Commander. The master plan provides guidance for the management and development of natural and manmade resources at the Fort Randall Dam/Lake Francis Case project including public use, environmentally sensitive areas and cultural resources within the project’s boundaries.
  • EA for repairs to flood control works project in Monona and Harrison Counties, IA, seeks public input

    A draft environmental assessment for repairs to the Little Sioux InterCounty Drainage District’s flood control works project in Monona and Harrison Counties, Iowa is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damages to four areas of the project caused by high flows along the Little Sioux River in May 2013.
