To receive rehabilitation assistance, a project must be "active" in the PL 84-99 program.
Project sponsors must submit a request for USACE assistance within 30 days after the flood event. Upon receiving the request, USACE will inspect the project to determine the extent of the damage, the best repair alternative and whether the repair cost is economically feasible. Project sponsors will be notified verbally and in writing of the inspection results and the USACE's intent to participate in the repair.
If the USACE plans to provide rehabilitation assistance, the project sponsor will be required to furnish formal written assurances of local cooperation to USACE prior to the authorization of any repairs. The purpose of this agreement is to obtain an understanding between the USACE and the sponsor concerning the responsibilities of each party.
- Federally constructed projects are repaired using 100 percent federal funds.
- Non-federally constructed projects are repaired using 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent non-federal.
