Draft EA for replacement of wastewater treatment facility in Dakota City, Nebraska available for public comment
A draft environmental assessment for a proposal to replace the existing wastewater treatment facility for Dakota City, Nebraska is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of constructing a new facility along with an associated outfall structure adjacent to the west bank of the Missouri River between river miles 724.75 and 724.25. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than Jan. 10, 2018.

Draft EA for Missouri River Benton-Washington Levee Unit L-575 near Hamburg, Iowa available for public comment
A draft environmental assessment (EA) for levee repairs (L-575 Benton-Washington levee system) along the left descending bank of the Missouri River near Hamburg, Iowa is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage to the levee caused by high flows in May 2017.

Road across Gavins Point Dam closed November 14
Crest Road, the road that crosses the Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D., will be closed 8 a.m. through 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14 to perform maintenance on the spillway. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time.

Lewis and Clark Visitor Center closes for the season on November 9
The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center near Yankton will close for the winter season effective Thursday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. The center will reopen in February 2018.

Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee enters new phase
The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) met in Kansas City, Missouri, Oct. 30-Nov. 2. Committee members continued their work on the transition to an adaptive management framework that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will use to help protect the pallid sturgeon, the interior least tern, and the piping plover while maintaining the Missouri River’s eight authorized purposes (flood control, navigation, irrigation, hydropower, water supply, water quality, recreation, and fish and wildlife).

Tribes work with MRRIC as committee enters new phase
The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) met in Kansas City, Missouri, Oct. 30-Nov. 2. Tribes were represented by Dr. Kelly Morgan, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; Randy Teboe, Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska; John Fox, Osage Nation; Richard White, Ogalala Sioux Tribe, and Elizabeth Wakeman, Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe. The Omaha Tribe has joined the MRRIC Committee, appointing Orville Cayou, Vice-Chairman for the Tribe (who attended this meeting), and Jessica Webster-Valentino, Tribal Treasurer.

RIVERDALE, N. D. The boat ramp at the East Tailrace Recreation Area downstream of the Garrison Dam will be temporarily closed on Nov. 7 and 8 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee to Meet in Kansas City
The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) will hold its 39th meeting in Kansas City, Missouri, Oct. 31-Nov. 2, 2017. The meeting will be at the Hilton Kansas City Airport, 8801 NW 112th St., Kansas City, MO 64153, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, and concluding at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. The draft MRRIC meeting agenda can be found online at www.MRRIC.org.

South Platte ecosystem restoration alternatives to be discussed at public meeting in Denver
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with the City and County of Denver, will hold an open house on Wednesday, November 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Harvard Gulch Recreation Center, 550 E. Iliff Avenue to gather public input on preliminary alternatives currently being evaluated to restore degraded habitat along portions of the South Platte River in Denver, Colorado.
