  • Opportunity to Enter into a Challenge Cost-Sharing Cooperative Management Agreement

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Omaha District, is seeking proposals from Non-Federal Public Entities and Non-Profit Entities interested in entering into a Challenge Cost-Sharing Cooperative Management Agreement (CCSCMA) for the purpose of collaboratively managing designated recreation areas within Omaha District. CCSCMAs may be established for an initial term of up to ten (10) years, with an additional five (5) option-years available without further competition.

The public is invited to join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local weather experts for a series of briefings on the 2026 runoff season, reservoir status, and our planned operations for the year ahead.

  • Dry outlook persists for Missouri River despite early spring runoff; Navigation support to begin mid-March

    Warm February temperatures triggered early snowmelt and runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa, but the overall 2026 runoff forecast remains well below average. February runoff was 1.3 million acre-feet, 113% of average. Despite this above average runoff in the Garrison, Oahe, and Gavins Point reaches, the full-year runoff forecast above Sioux City, Iowa is 20.6 MAF, 80% of average.

  • Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works announces ‘Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork’ initiative for the Army’s Civil Works program

    On Feb. 23, 2026, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam R. Telle announced a major initiative, “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork,” for the Army’s Civil Works program. Within the Omaha District, this initiative supports the continued delivery of critical infrastructure projects that strengthen communities, enhance resilience, and support national priorities across the region.

  • USACE conducting dam safety modification study efforts at Garrison Dam in North Dakota

    OMAHA, Neb. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District is conducting a dam safety modification study at Garrison Dam, near Riverdale, North Dakota. The study addresses risks associated with the design of the concrete spillway. These risks were identified during the 2011 Missouri River flood, when the Garrison Dam’s spillway was used for the first time in the dam’s nearly 70 year history to help control the flow of the Missouri River and lessen the impacts of severe flooding on downstream communities like Bismarck.

  • USACE, Hamburg sign first ever Section 1176 agreement allowing raise of Ditch 6 levee system

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, and the City of Hamburg, Iowa, signed the Section 1176 project agreement Tuesday that will allow for raising the Hamburg Ditch 6 levee eight feet, significantly increasing the flood risk management benefits the levee provides to the city.

  • Virtual public meeting scheduled to discuss recently released Papillion Creek Basin draft final feasibility report

    OMAHA, Neb. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District, will hold a virtual public meeting Feb. 10 to present the results of the draft final feasibility report for the Papillion Creek general reevaluation study. The purpose of the study is to develop alternatives to reduce flood risks and improve public safety within the Papillion Creek Basin in Douglas, Sarpy and Washington counties.

  • Winter won't stop work on L-536 levee repairs

    Despite winter conditions, work continues on the L-536 levee setback south of Rock Port, Missouri. Repairs to the original in-line portion of the levee are scheduled to be substantially complete within the next month. Construction of the levee setback portion of the project continues despite the freezing temperatures.

  • Public comments sought for Lake Sakakawea (ND) Shoreline Management Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, is seeking public comment as part of the update of the Lake Sakakawea Shoreline Management Plan (SMP). This update is part of a routine five-year review of the SMP. In general, the SMP provide guidance on how USACE will administer the Shoreline Management program at Lake Sakakawea near Riverdale, North Dakota.

  • Virtual public meeting scheduled for flood risk management study in Fremont.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in cooperation with the Lower Platte North Natural Resources District and the city of Fremont, will hold a virtual public meeting Jan. 13, from 7-9 p.m. via Zoom meeting ID 95037694771 to discuss results of the flood risk management study outlined in the recently released draft feasibility report.
