Omaha District Fiscal Year 2018 year in review

The Aurora VA Medical Center, USSTRATCOM and the Missouri River Recovery Program Environmental Impact Statement are among the many significant accomplishments for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Omaha District in 2018. The District closed out the fiscal year on September 30 with a $1.29 billion program, one of the largest the district has ever managed.

Draft EA for control of zebra mussels and common carp in Glenn Cunningham Lake available for public review

A draft environmental assessment for a proposal to control two invasive species in Omaha’s Glenn Cunningham Lake is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the impacts of drawing the lake down during the 2018 fall and winter months to freeze the zebra mussels and applying Rotenone in the remaining pools to control common carp. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than October 17, 2018.

Maintenance Activities Begin at Wagon Train and Stagecoach Reservoirs

The US Army Corps of Engineers announced today that maintenance construction activities on the outlet works of Wagon Train and Stagecoach Dams have begun and will continue through December.

Road across Gavins Point Dam closed September 10, 11

Crest Road, the road on Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, South Dakota, will be closed from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 11 to perform inspections on the spillway bridge. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time.

Draft EA for bank stabilization project at Lake Sharpe, SD available for public comment

A draft environmental assessment for a proposal to protect cultural sites from bank erosion within the Fort George Historic District at Lake Sharpe in Stanley County, South Dakota is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of constructing an off-shore breakwater structure to protect cultural sites from bank erosion caused by wind/wave, and ice action. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than September 21, 2018.

Stagecoach Reservoir lowered an additional foot

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that reservoir refilling operations at Salt Creek Dam Site 9 (Stagecoach Reservoir) in Lancaster County, Nebraska, are being temporarily suspended.

Federal Funds Approved for $25 Million Deadmans Run Flood Reduction Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) has approved the feasibility study to reduce the risk of flooding in Lincoln’s Deadmans Run Watershed, generally between North 33rd and 48th Streets, just north of the Uinversty of Nebraska - Lincoln's East Campus. The Deadmans Run Flood Risk Reduction Project would shrink the 100-year floodplain by 250 acres, reducing the risk of flood damage to the area and removing the floodplain designation from approximately 500 structures, mostly homes and businesses. Federal funding comes after a four-year Section 205 Study of the Deadmans Run Watershed that included public input at open houses and informational meetings.
