Ice Fishing Access Policy in Effect
Ice Fishermen: Have fun this winter and be safe; “ALWAYS, KNOW BEFORE YOU GO”. Check in with someone who is near the particular body of water where you are accessing. Bait shops, outfitters, game wardens, and public land managers are all valuable sources for ice condition updates. The policy indicating the designated areas on Lake Sakakawea is available here.

Lake Sakakawea Campgrounds 2017 Changes
Reservations are now open for campsites at Lake Sakakawea. There are several changes for the 2017 recreation camping season, but prices remain the same. Reservations for sites within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds must be made through Reserve America, either online at Recreation.gov, or by calling the toll free reservation line at 1-877-444-6777. Same day reservations will be available by calling the toll free number. Cash and checks will no longer be accepted at East Totten Trail or Wolf Creek Campgrounds.

Open house scheduled to provide update on Deadman’s Run flood risk study
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District and the City of Lincoln, will hold an open house on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Center, 1800 N. 33rd Street in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Statement Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Army informed the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Energy Transfer Partners, and Dakota Access, LLC, that it has completed the review that it launched on September 9, 2016. The Army has determined that additional discussion and analysis are warranted in light of the history of the Great Sioux Nation’s dispossessions of lands, the importance of Lake Oahe to the Tribe, our government-to-government relationship, and the statute governing easements through government property.

Public comment period extended for Cherry Creek Dam Water Control Plan changes
Water managers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District have extended the public comment period to December 16 for a Draft Report outlining proposed modifications to the Water Control Plan for Cherry Creek Dam during extreme flood events. The proposed plan allows water managers to release more water from the dam to reduce the risk of overtopping and failure. Public comments on the report will now be accepted through December 16, 2016. Changes to the water control plan could still be implemented as early as January 2017.

Contract awarded for Conestoga Lake maintenance project
B-Y Excavating, Inc. of Nebraska City, Nebraska has been awarded a maintenance construction contract for work at Salt Creek Site 12 - Conestoga Lake near Lincoln, Nebraska. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District awarded the $294,000 for the project that began this week.

Nebraska stream condition assessment procedure available
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, Nebraska Regulatory Office, announces the publication Nebraska Stream Condition Assessment Procedure (NeSCAP). This Procedure has been developed for use in the evaluation of streams and floodplains/riparian areas.
