  • Moffat Project Final EIS to be released

    April 25, 2014 set for the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Denver Water’s Moffat Collection System Project. At this time the public will have an opportunity to review and comment on the Final EIS, which will in turn be considered prior to final decision-making by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  • Lewis and Clark Visitor Center opens

    The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, in Yankton, S.D. at the Gavins Point Dam will reopen Monday, Feb. 3. Hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located on Nebraska Highway 121 near Crofton, Neb.

  • Bald Eagle Days at Gavins Point Dam scheduled for Jan. 25 and 26

    Bald Eagle Days, sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service, is set for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26 at the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center at Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D. The programs will be at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. 3 p.m. each day and are free to the public. The programs will feature several live raptors, including a Bald Eagle. Each program is limited to 70 people.

Followers can guess the message, which will be revealed each Thursday. #One2Many is the Omaha District water safety campaign hashtag designed to communicate that one accident, one death and one unworn life jacket is too many.

  • Draft Environmental Impact Statement to be prepared for Cherry Creek Dam, Aurora, Colo.

    A draft Environmental Impact Statement will be prepared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District to address environmental issues related to remediation alternatives that will be proposed at the conclusion of a Dam Safety Modification Study for the Cherry Creek Dam in Aurora, Colo. Public scoping meetings will be held in 2014 within the local Cherry Creek Dam project area to present information regarding the array of remediation alternatives that may be addressed in the draft EIS, receive public comments, and solicit input regarding dam safety issues, additional remediation alternatives to consider, and other environmental issues of concern to the public.

  • Garrison Project 2013-2014 Winter Access Policy now available

    The 2013-2014 winter access policy released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Garrison Project identifies 55 points of entry to Lake Sakakawea. The Lake has not yet completely frozen over, but with the recent cold weather it won’t be long. The Omaha District urges everyone to exercise extreme caution. Thin ice or open water may exist near springs and pressure ridges throughout the winter.

  • Fort Peck Interpretive Center announces winter schedule

    The Fort Peck Interpretive Center will operate under an appointment-based system this winter due to low seasonal visitation and budget constraints. The Center will not have set hours for the months of December, January and February. Groups who would like to use the meeting room or individuals and families who want to tour the facility will need to make an appointment in advance during weekdays by calling the Interpretive Center at (406) 526-3493 or the Project Office at (406) 526-3411.

  • Spillway Slab project at Gavins Point Dam continues

    On Monday, Dec. 2, work on the concrete slab below the Gavins Point Spillway, near Yankton, S.D., is set to resume, which will close the parking area to the public until the work is completed. The slab was damaged when record amounts of water were released from the spillway during the 2011 flood.

  • Contract awarded for shallow water habitat project at Indian Cave State Park, Richardson County, Neb.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to construct a shallow water habitat backwater project at the Indian Cave State Park in Richardson County, Neb. The Corps worked closely with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission while designing the backwater to ensure the project accomplished Missouri River Recovery Program goals while adding a feature to the Indian Cave State Park the public could enjoy.

  • Lewis and Clark Visitor Center at Gavins Point to close for season

    The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center at Gavins Point Dam, located near Yankton, S.D., and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service will close for the season Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. The center, which is located on Nebraska Highway 121 near the Gavins Point Dam, will reopen in March. School and civic groups may still schedule tours and programs by contacting Karla Zeutenhorst at 402-667-2546.
