  • Hunters reminded of tree stand requirements at the Gavins Point Project

    Hunters are reminded of tree stand requirements on U. S. Army Corps of Engineers lands, located in Yankton and Clay counties in South Dakota and Knox and Cedar counties in Nebraska. Portable tree stands are permitted, and may remain on project lands from August 15 through February 15 each year.

  • Dakota Access Pipeline final EA and FONSI released for ND Section 408 crossings

    Omaha District Commander Col. John W. Henderson has signed the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) Project. The FONSI summarizes the environmental effects evaluation that occurred during development of the draft environmental assessment and the decision to grant Section 408 permissions that allow the Project to cross 2.83 miles of federal flowage easements at the Missouri River upstream of Lake Sakakawea in Williams County and approximately 0.21 miles of federally-owned property at Lake Oahe in Morton and Emmons Counties, North Dakota. The proposed Project would connect the Bakken and Three Forks crude oil production areas in North Dakota to existing infrastructure in Illinois.

  • Gavins Point Dam road closed July 27-28

    Crest Road, the road that crosses the Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D., will be closed from 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 through 4 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016. This closure will include nighttime hours. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time.

  • Public meeting scheduled on Lander, WY flood risk management study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the city of Lander, will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m.at the City Hall, 240 Lincoln Street in Lander, WY. The purpose of the meeting is to gather input on the recently initiated Popo Agie River flood risk management feasibility study.

  • Gavins Point Dam crest road closed July 13-15

    Crest Road, the road that crosses the Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D. will be closed from 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 13 through 3 p.m. Friday July 15, 2016 to conduct maintenance.

  • Comments sought on Draft Environmental Assessment for PL 84-99 Levee Certification, Greybull, Wyoming

    A draft Environmental Assessment has been prepared by Amec Foster Wheeler, Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to determine if any environmental impacts would be caused by a proposed project to bring the town of Greybull Levee System into compliance with 44 CFR § 65.10 of the National Flood Insurance Program criteria for levee certification. The Greybull Levee System includes two project areas, the Dry Creek right bank levee and the Big Horn River left bank levee. Comments on the draft EA must be postmarked or received no later than August 8, 2016.

  • Duck Blind Permits for Lewis and Clark Lake accepted through August 17 for 2016 Season

    The 2016-17 Gavins Point Project Duck Blind Permit Applications are available for viewing online or in-person at the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, located near Gavins Point Dam. Applications will be accepted at the Gavins Point Project Office or Lewis and Clark Visitor Center until Wednesday, August 17, 2016.

  • Public input sought on proposed list for expediting routine alterations at District civil works projects

    Several draft programmatic environmental assessments for developing categorical permissions under Title 33, U.S. Code 408 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 are currently available for public review. Each draft programmatic EA evaluates the environmental impacts of allowing certain routine alterations to be permitted at federally-constructed civil works projects within the Omaha District’s civil works boundary (Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa). Comments must be postmarked or received no later than August 1, 2016.

  • Lake Zorinsky suspect for larval zebra mussels

    A recent water sample taken from Lake Zorinsky has tested positive for veligers, the microscopic larval form of zebra mussels. Additional water samples continue to be analyzed and shoreline surveys are being conducted. There are no current indications that the zebra mussels are a threat to the dam’s infrastructure. At this time, there are no plans to lower Lake Zorinsky or use any chemicals to treat the lake for zebra mussels.

  • Corps to hold public meeting for Langdon Bend Habitat Project in Nemaha

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) will hold a public meeting on the draft project implementation report (PIR) with integrated environmental assessment (EA) for the Langdon Bend Interception and Rearing Complex Habitat Project in Nemaha County.
