  • Generator maintenance will result in water releases through spillway gates at Gavins Point Dam

    Maintenance on the generators at Gavins Point Powerplant near Yankton, South Dakota, will result in the need to release water through the spillway gates through Sept. 30.
  • Gavins Point spillway flow forecast during archery paddlefish season

    Completion of work being done on a generator at Gavins Point Dam, near Yankton, SD, will allow spillway gates to be closed near the start of archery paddlefish season. The work, which included repairs on the turbines, will be completed ahead of schedule on May 31. As soon as the generator has been checked, and is cleared to return the service, the spillway gates will be closed. Pending any unforeseen problems, the unit is expected to be returned to service on Thursday, June 3rd.
  • Gavins Point Dam powerplant generators will be shut down for inspection

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announces that all three generators at the Gavins Point Dam powerplant near Yankton, South Dakota, will be shut down to allow for the underwater inspection of the draft tube gate slots on the downstream side of the powerplant. During this outage, all 14 spillway gates will be open to meet the authorized purposes downstream.
  • Spillway gate and generator maintenance will cause water releases throughout October’s paddlefish season

    Anglers in the area for paddlefish snagging season will have some short disruptions due to spillway gate maintenance at Gavins Point Dam, near Yankton, SD, through October 16. The maintenance will require water to flow from a single gate several times a day for 10-15 minutes at a time. Beginning October 19, when upgrades are scheduled for generators, multiple spillway gates will remain open 24 hours a day.
  • Spillway parking area to be closed

    The parking area next to the Gavins Point Spillway, near Yankton, SD, will be closed from approximately 5 a.m. through noon on Tuesday, August 7, to allow contractors to conduct parking lot maintenance.
  • Generator upgrades will cause spillway flows at Gavins Point Dam

    Upgrades to the hydropower generators at Gavins Point Powerplant near Yankton, SD will result in water flows through the spillway gates. Flows are expected from February 26 through May 15, 2018. Boating restrictions will be in place on the river below the dam during this time.
  • Spillway gate repair to restart for season at Gavins Point Dam

    Repairs to the spillway gates at Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, SD are set to continue Monday, March 23. The repairs, which began in 2014, include the inspection, repair, and painting of the 14 gates. The crest road that crosses the Gavins Point dam will experience periodic road and lane closures through the duration of construction.
  • Gavins Point Dam Road Closed May 19-23

    Crest Road, the road that crosses the Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D., will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday, May 19 through noon Friday, May 23. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time.

    Flood repair work on Gavins Point Spillway near Yankton, S.D. will cause one lane of the spillway road to be closed into the fall.
  • Gavins Point releases will divert to spillway beginning March 26

    Due to maintenance and repairs at the Gavins Point Dam power plant, water releases, which normally run through the powerhouse, will be diverted to the spillway beginning Wednesday, March 26. "We are releasing the same amount of water that we normally would. The difference is, it will be more visible to the public because we will be using the spillway instead of the powerhouse," said Dave Becker, Operations Project Manager for Gavins Point.
