  • USACE seeks public comment for Draft Environmental Assessment for Sand Creek Flowlines at Garrison Project, ND

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District announced a draft environmental assessment is available to review for Rough Rider Operating, LLC and Oasis Petroleum North America, LLC requesting the reissuance of a real estate easement from USACE for the continued occupation of six existing oil- and gas-related production flowlines installed in 2014 via horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and put into service in 2015. These flowlines cross under Sand Creek, on federal lands administered by the USACE Garrison Dam/ Lake Sakakawea Civil Works Project near the City of Williston, Williams County, North Dakota.

  • Fort Randall trail dedication honors beloved employee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District’s Fort Randall Project held a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Sept. 20, 2024, in Pickstown, South Dakota for a newly constructed trail system. The trail system, named the Lisa M. Durham Memorial Trail, honors Lisa Durham, a longtime Fort Randall employee who passed away in 2022 following her battle with cancer.

  • Yes, the outlet tunnels at Oahe are releasing water

    A combination of planned maintenance and an unscheduled turbine outage at Oahe will result in outlet tunnel operations beginning today. Starting at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 16, the outlet tunnels at Oahe will be releasing 8,000 cubic feet per second of the daily average 31,300 cfs releases.

  • Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee to hold fall plenary session in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, announced that the Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) will hold a plenary session Sep. 17-19, 2024, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The meeting will be held at the Best Western Plus Ramkota Hotel beginning at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Sep. 17, and concluding at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sep. 19. The draft MRRIC meeting agenda can be requested by emailing mrric@usace.army.mil. The MRRIC meets two to three times each year. All sessions are open for the public to observe the proceedings, unless noted as ‘executive’. Additionally, at least one session each day is open to members of the public wishing to address the committee and the lead federal agencies—the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  All public sessions are noted in the agenda.

  • Vegetation control to begin on Missouri River sandbars between Garrison Dam and Huff, N.D.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct vegetation management activities during August and September on sandbars in the Missouri River between Garrison Dam and Huff, N.D. The Bismarck-Mandan river reach (river miles 1325 to 1310) will not be sprayed. This work is being done to keep the sandbars free of vegetation and usable by the threatened piping plover for nesting.

  • Vegetation control to begin on Missouri River sandbars between Yankton and Vermillion, S.D.

    During September, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct vegetation management activities on sandbars in the Missouri River between Yankton and Vermillion, S.D., the upper portion of Lewis and Clark Lake near Springfield S.D. and Niobrara, N.E., and as far upstream as Pickstown, S.D. This work is being done to keep the sandbars free of vegetation and usable by the threatened piping plover for nesting as well to control invasive common reed that has become prevalent in the lake area.

  • Monitoring of pallid sturgeon response to test flow continues with some surprising news

    The 2024 test flow from Fort Peck Dam was the first in a series of test flows intended to comply with the 2018 Biological Opinion. The test flow began April 26 with an initial flow peak in early May and a second flow peak in late June.

  • Jamestown and Pipestem dams increasing releases following a wet pattern

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District will increase releases from Jamestown Dam and Pipestem Dam beginning July 25 in response to an active rainfall pattern over recent months.

  • USACE seeks public comment on BNSF Railway Bridge Removal Project

    A proposed removal of the BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) Bridge 2001-518, located on the Big Sioux River within Sioux City, Iowa and North Sioux City, South Dakota, is currently available for public review and comment. The purpose of the project is to remove BNSF Bridge 2001-518.9 due to a significant storm event that caused the structure, managed by the USACE Omaha District, to be damaged and dislodged from the pier in the center of the river.

  • USACE seeks public comment on Winnebago Tribe Broadband Fiber Optic Project

    A proposed alteration of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska/ Winnebago Tribe Broadband Fiber Optic Project, located on the Winnebago Reservation and in the adjacent communities of Emerson, Homer, and Wakefield in Thurston County, Nebraska, is currently available for public review and comment. The purpose of the project is to deploy a broadband infrastructure network to connect unserved/underserved tribal households, businesses, and community anchor institutions (i.e., schools, medical facilities) to reliable and affordable high-speed internet.
