USACE conducting dam safety modification study efforts at Garrison Dam in North Dakota
OMAHA, Neb. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District is conducting a dam safety modification study at Garrison Dam, near Riverdale, North Dakota. The study addresses risks associated with the design of the concrete spillway. These risks were identified during the 2011 Missouri River flood, when the Garrison Dam’s spillway was used for the first time in the dam’s nearly 70 year history to help control the flow of the Missouri River and lessen the impacts of severe flooding on downstream communities like Bismarck.

East Tailrace boat ramp closed Tuesday for repairs
RIVERDALE, N.D. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that East Tailrace boat ramp at Garrison Dam on the Missouri River will be temporarily closed Tuesday from 11:00am to 3:00pm to conduct repairs to the boat ramp. No releases are scheduled during this time frame. The ramp will reopen to the public at 3:00pm.

Vegetation control to begin on Missouri River sandbars between Garrison Dam and Huff, North Dakota
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District will conduct vegetation management activities on sandbars in the Missouri River between Garrison Dam and Huff, North Dakota during the month of September 2019.

Garrison Dam releases increased
In order to meet the 44,000 cfs release, the Garrison Project initiated releases of 3,000 cfs through its regulating tunnels. This release supplements the 41,000 cfs release through the power plant for a combined release of 44,000 cfs.

Boat ramp at East Tailrace Recreation Area temporarily closed
The boat ramp at the East Tailrace Recreation Area downstream of the Garrison Dam will be temporarily closed on Oct.10-12.

Final Phase: Implementation of Garrison Land Transfer meetings June 22 and 23
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) will host two public meetings in June to share and discuss the May 6, 2015 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Secretaries of the Department of the Army (Army) and Department of the Interior (Interior). The MOA sets forth the process for transferring administrative jurisdiction over certain Garrison Project lands no longer needed for the construction, maintenance and operation of the project to be held in trust for the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation).

Temporary Closure of East Tailrace Recreation Area at Garrison Dam
The road to the East Tailrace Recreation Area downstream of the Garrison Dam in Riverdale, N.D. will be closed on April 27 and April 28 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. This closure is required to allow sedimentation removal from the downstream boat ramp. The road to the East Tailrace will be closed during this time. Shore fishing at the East Tailrace will not be permitted. Shore fishing will remain available at the West Tailrace. Signs will be in place to direct the public. Access to the East Tailrace will reopen once the work is completed.
