YANKTON, S.D. – Come splash into summer at the 3rd annual Lake Yankton Water Festival Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. at the Training Dike Recreation Area.

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the event along with help from the National Park Service, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Nebraska State Patrol, Yankton Police Department , Yankton Sheriff’s Office, Yankton County Search and Rescue, South Dakota Canoe and Kayak Association and Yankton County EMS. It’s a great time to come out and meet the individuals who work around Lewis and Clark, the Missouri River, and the surrounding communities; and help keep us all safe.

The public can come out and play games, win prizes, and make crafts to take home. The National Park Service will have their Mobile Ranger Station on site. Local law enforcement agencies will have emergency vehicles to view and a roll-over simulator that shows what happens in vehicle roll-over accidents. You can also register to win a free life jacket!

One of the highlights of the festival is a paddling clinic. Participants can try out different canoes and kayaks and learn how to safely operate them on area rivers and lakes.

In addition to events on the Training Dike, the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center will have special movies showing throughout the day. All events are free to the public. For more information contact the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center at 402-667-7873, ext 2546
