Flood fighters from MO, NE, IA meet for annual training

OMAHA, Neb. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District Emergency Management Office held its annual Flood Fight training on February 25, for flood risk reduction project sponsors in the PL 84-99 program, USACE flood fights, and State and County Emergency Managers near Omaha, Neb.

Training topics included PL 84-99 authorities, spring flood outlook, flood fighting, levee safety, rehabilitation program, inspection program, flood risk management, and geophysical testing of soils.

Approximately 65 people were in attendance.

The following items were presented during the training:

• Omaha District Emergency Operations - Laws and authorities and types of assistance
• Spring Flood Outlook - NWS Forecast, Snow data and drought monitoring
• Northwestern Division Missouri River Water Management Division - Runoff and reservoir operation forecast for Spring 2015
• Flood Fight Training and Surveillance - Levee inspections during high water
• Rehabilitation and Inspection Program Update
• Flood Risk Management and Communication
• Geophysical Testing - Nondestructive tools for levee assessments
