Omaha, Neb. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, awarded a $43,000 contract Tuesday for seeding on Missouri River Levee Unit R-613 between Bellevue and Plattsmouth, Neb.
Work includes seeding on the levee to address damages caused by the Flood of 2011.
Work is scheduled to be complete by March 15.
The contract was awarded to Next Phase Environmental, Inc. out of Underwood, Iowa.
Work on the structure essentially began in September 1967 and was substantially completed in March 1970.
The project principally provides flood risk reduction for roughly 3,000 acres of land. Approximately 2,200 acres are agricultural and the remainder includes residential housing, a portion of Offutt AFB and privately owned businesses.
Drawing on funding provided by the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act signed Dec. 23, 2011, by President Barack Obama, the Omaha District Systems Restoration Team (SRT) was established to focus the vast skills and abilities of the district to execute those repairs. The SRT will bring innovative, world-class solutions to restore levees in the PL 84-99 program as well as the mainstem dams and related flood control structures to their authorized level of flood risk reduction.
