OMAHA, Neb. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announced Wednesday that reservoir releases out of Jamestown and Pipestem reservoirs have been reduced to zero.
Winter operations for emptying the flood pools and mitigating ice jam flooding on the river are now over, and Jamestown and Pipestem dams are moving into typical spring operations.
The current pool elevation at Jamestown Dam is 1424.7 feet, which is 6.3 feet below the exclusive flood control zone. The reservoir is rising due to spring snowmelt. The current pool elevation at Pipestem Dam is 1450.0 feet, 7.5 feet above the base of the flood control zone and utilizing six percent of the flood pool. The reservoir is also rising due to spring snowmelt.
Typical operations are expected this year, with the goal of evacuating any flood control storage from Jamestown Dam by June 1, and allowing Pipestem Dam to continue to rise until June 15. At that point, Pipestem Dam begins to release the flood control storage with a target evacuation date of Sept. 1. Above normal precipitation could impact these operations. Maximum combined releases are not expected to exceed 750 to 1,200 cubic feet per second.
