OMAHA, NE – The public comment period for the draft environmental assessment (EA) to perform maintenance activities on the existing Hawkeye Pipeline System within Federal lands (Lake Sakakawea) in McKenzie and Williams counties in North Dakota has been extended to May 12, 2019. This EA tiers from one completed in 2015 by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) which evaluated the environmental effects of repurposing the existing pipelines within Lake Sakakawea. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was a cooperating agency in the completion of that EA. More background and project information is available in Section 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 of the draft tiered-EA.
The public is encouraged to provide comments on the draft tiered-EA (dated March 2019), which is available for viewing at: www.nwo.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Planning/Project-Reports/. This draft tiered-EA is consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended, the Council on Environmental Quality’s regulations for implementing NEPA (40 CFR 1500-1508), the Corps’ regulations for implementing NEPA (33 CFR 325 and Engineering Regulation 200-2-2) and other applicable environmental laws and regulations.
