Be aware of debris, wakes during elevated water levels

Published June 29, 2018

GARRISON DAM, N.D. --

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants to remind water recreationists on Lake Sakakawea to be cautious and watchout  for potential safety hazards due to high water levels. It is important to be aware that additional debris and logs are currently floating in the reservoir.

With the high water level, boating traffic can create large waves on the shoreline. To promote water safety and minimize conflict between various lake recreational users, be aware of the potential impacts that can be caused by your watercraft’s wakes.

Please slow down and reduce wakes to help reduce or lessen potential:

  • Boating accidents
  • Protect human life
  • Provide safe swimming areas
  • Reduce shoreline erosion
  • Protect fish spawning and other sensitive areas
