    Out with the old, in with the new: Bulkhead gates at Gavins Point Dam replaced for the first time

    The Gavins Point Dam, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, reached a milestone earlier this fall when six draft tube bulkhead gates at the hydroelectric powerhouse were replaced for the first time ever.

    Omaha District hosts small business industry day

    The Omaha District’s Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) awarded $417 million in contracts to small businesses last year and is looking to grow that number exponentially. To aid in that goal, the program team held a small business industry day, Oct. 30, 2024, to engage with local small businesses and to show them how they can get involved with government contracting.

    Pilot project tests new technology for collecting sediment from Niobrara River

    A joint research pilot project between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center and the Missouri Sedimentation Action Coalition was recently conducted on the Niobrara River in northeast Nebraska to test new technology designed to intercept sediment from the riverbed before it reaches Lewis and Clark Lake.

    In support of the USACE Jacksonville District, more than 50 Omaha District employees activated beginning Oct. 8, 2024 to make up a Temporary Roofing Planning and Response Team in support of Operation Blue Roof, a priority mission managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

    In the wake of Hurricane Milton, more than 50 personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, answered the call to provide crucial support to affected communities.
