    Gavins Point powerhouse annual maintenance in full swing

    Every year, the hydroelectric power generators at the Gavins Point Dam powerhouse, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, are brought down one at a time to undergo annual maintenance. The maintenance begins in the fall when water releases are lower and concludes in early spring.

    Omaha District, Japan Ministry of Defense partner in exchange of protective design ideas

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, hosted a Japan Ministry of Defense engineer engagement with USACE’s Protective Design – Mandatory Center of Expertise, Nov. 6-8, 2024. Five representatives from the Bureau of Defense Building Planning, Japan Ministry of Defense traveled to the United States for the engagement that included multiple briefings from USACE leaders regarding protective design and other expertise centers located in the Omaha District, as well as JMoD presentations and a tour of the Edward Zorinsky Federal Building.
  • Out with the old, in with the new: Bulkhead gates at Gavins Point Dam replaced for the first time

    The Gavins Point Dam, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, reached a milestone earlier this fall when six draft tube bulkhead gates at the hydroelectric powerhouse were replaced for the first time ever.
  • Omaha District hosts small business industry day

    The Omaha District’s Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP) awarded $417 million in contracts to small businesses last year and is looking to grow that number exponentially. To aid in that goal, the program team held a small business industry day, Oct. 30, 2024, to engage with local small businesses and to show them how they can get involved with government contracting.
