  • EA for levee repairs in Douglas County, NE, seeks public input

    A draft environmental assessment for repairs to levee unit R-627, Grace Street Ditch, in Douglas County, NE, is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing erosion damage to the levee caused by high flows in June 2014.
  • Maintenance project to begin at Cherry Creek Dam near Denver

    Work will begin in late December to install a 2,200-foot-long underground outfall pipe system for 14 relief wells that were installed along the downstream toe of the dam in 2012. The new relief well system is designed to relieve seepage pressure under the dam that could develop during extremely high reservoir elevation levels. The system replaces an existing well system that is more than 65 years old.

    A draft environmental assessment for bank repairs to Dry Creek, a left-bank tributary of the Big Sioux River, near Hawarden in Sioux County, Iowa is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing bank erosion along a portion of Dry Creek and filling a scour hole caused by high flows in the Big Sioux River in June 2014.

    A draft environmental assessment for bankline repairs to levee units 624 and 624-627-611-614 along Mosquito Creek in Pottawattamie County, Iowa is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing erosion and sloughing damage to the bankline caused by high flows in June 2014.
  • Omaha District commander signs Chatfield Reservoir Water Storage Agreement

    Omaha District Commander Col. Joel R. Cross, signed the Water Storage Agreement for the Chatfield Water Reallocation Project in Lakewood, Colo., today. The agreement will be between the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Colorado Water Conservation Board and Department of the Army. Upon execution, storage from the flood control purpose will be reallocated to joint flood control-conservation purposes in the Chatfield Reservoir under the authority of - Section 808 (Water Resources Development Act of 1986); River and Harbor Act of 1958.
  • Assistant Secretary of the Army approves water reallocation agreement for Colorado

    The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Jo-Ellen Darcy, approved the water reallocation agreement for the Chatfield Water Reallocation Project in Lakewood, Colorado, in a memo sent to the Omaha District on September 30. Signature authority for the agreement was delegated to Omaha District Commander Col.Joel R. Cross.
  • Public comments sought on environmental assessment for a proposed seismic study to evaluate hydrocarbon reserves in N.D.

    A draft environmental assessment for a proposed seismic study to evaluate hydrocarbon reserves in McKenzie and Williams Counties, N.D. is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of seismic exploration activities on federal and non-federal lands within the project area.
