    Omaha District supports Missouri River Relief cleanup event

    For the fourth time, volunteers from around the Omaha and Council Bluffs area came together to support the organization, Missouri River Relief and help clean up the banks of the Missouri River. On Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, more than 200 volunteers collected massive amounts of junk that had been washed down the river after last year's flooding.

    Oahe celebrates 50 years of community

    On a crisp August morning, several hundred visitors met at the Oahe Dam to remember a ceremony held 50 years earlier. They gathered at the same location as many had back then to commemorate one of the dam’s unauthorized purposes: serving as a pivot point.

    Beneath the layers of dirt

    Crews are deploying a multiple electrode resistivity unit – MER, for short – to create a map of changes in the soil beneath as part of the geotechnical investigations process developed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to improve knowledge of the conditions for levee foundations as well as the construction of the levees themselves.

    75th Anniversary Fort Peck Dam: tested and true

    "The sheer magnitude of this dam …and this day… are in perfect symmetry. And the spirit of human accomplishment – which resulted in the construction of Fort Peck Dam – is a story that should be known by all Americans," said Omaha District Commander, Colonel Robert Ruch to a crowd of 330 people gathered to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Fort Peck Dam.
