R613 Levee Restoration Information

Background: The R-613 Platte River Left Bank & Papillion Creek Right Bank & Missouri River Right Bank Levee Systems were damaged during the 2019 Flood Event, leading to the Levee Sponsor submitting a Public Law (PL) 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance request to the US Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District.

Current Action:  Design funding has been received to begin work on the levee repair project.  The purpose of this rehabilitation project is to repair the levee systems to the authorized level of flood risk management.

Next Steps:

  1. Complete the Engineering and Design process.
  2. Advertise and award the levee repair construction contract.
  3. Repair the levee system to its authorized level of flood risk management.

 

Status Update:

22 July 2019 – The final statement of work went out for proposals on 18 July 2019.

09 July 2019 – The team conducted an initial pre-proposal site walk with construction contractors on 08 July 2019. Pending availability of funding from USACE Headquarters, the project is anticipated to be awarded in late July or early August.

17 June 2019 – An initial site damage assessment and economic analysis has been completed. From this initial assessment the USACE team has determined that there are damages to the levee system that are eligible for PL 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance. The USACE team is actively coordinating with the Levee Sponsor to ensure all repair efforts integrate with ongoing construction activities.

B-Roll of the Chatfield Dam and Reservoir located on the South Platte River, south of Littleton, Colorado. The dam and reservoir, built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, became operational in 1975. In addition to its primary purpose of flood control, it serves as one of many water supply reservoirs for the city of Denver, Colorado.
