Pender – Logan Creek Right Bank Levee System Restoration Information

Background: The Pender – Logan Creek Right Bank Levee System was damaged during the 2019 Flood Event, leading to the Project Sponsor submitting a Public Law (PL) 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance request to the US Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District.

Current Action: Repair the system to its authorized level of flood risk management.

Status Updates:

08 September 2020 - The contractor is approximately 60 percent complete with the levee repair project and is currently driving sheet pile and placing riprap as part of the repair efforts.

16 July 2020 - The contractor is approximately 18 percent complete with the levee repair project and is preparing to drive sheet pile for the repair efforts.

10 June 2020 - The levee repair contract was awarded on 13 May 2020 to Michels Corp. of Brownsville, WI for $7 million. The pre-construction meeting was held on 28 May 2020.

08 May 2020 - The bid opening for the levee repair contract occurred on 28 April 2020. The team is currently working through the award process.

23 April 2020 - The levee repair contract was advertised on 07 April 2020, and the bid opening is scheduled for 28 April 2020.

10 April 2020 - The levee repair contract was advertised on 07 April 2020, and the bid opening is scheduled for 22 April 2020.

16 March 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

04 March 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

13 February 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

31 January 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

06 December 2019 - The RJH design team is finalizing the design and the contract is anticipated to be advertised before the end of the calendar year, pending finalization of project documentation by the sponsor.

22 November 2019 - The RJH design team is finalizing the design and the contract is anticipated to be advertised before the end of the calendar year, pending finalization of project documentation by the sponsor.

08 November 2019 - The USACE team is finalizing its review of the 60% levee repair design submitted by the RJH design team.

24 October 2019 - The USACE team is finalizing its review of the 60% levee repair design submitted by the RJH design team.

13 October 2019 - The RJH Design Team is scheduled to submit the 60% design for the USACE team to review later this week. The USACE team is anticipating this review to take approximately one week.

27 September 2019 – The design Contractor will submit the 60% levee repair design plans to the USACE team for technical review in early October.

13 September 2019 – The team continues to work with RJH Consultants to develop the Pender levee repair design.

06 September 2019 – The USACE team conducted an initial kick-off meeting and site visit with the RJH team last week.  The current schedule is to have the levee repair design by the end of the calendar year.

29 August 2019 – RJH Consultants will present its 30% design solution in two weeks for USACE to review.

13 August 2019 – The Pender A-E Design Contract was awarded to RJH Consultants on 9 August 2019.

05 August 2019 – The USACE team and Levee Sponsor conducted a site visit to the Pender Levee System on 29 July 2019.  The data collected during this site visit will be used to refine the engineering design documents for the project.

16 July 2019 – An initial site damage assessment and economic analysis has been completed.  From this initial assessment the USACE team has determined that there are damages to the levee system that are eligible for PL 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance. Engineering and Design (E&D) work is on-going for rehabilitating the Pender Levee System.  The team is anticipating to be done with the E&D process for repairing the damage identified by the end of the calendar year 2019.
