Ames Diking Levee Restoration Information

Background: The Ames Diking – Platte River Left Bank Levee System was damaged during the 2019 Flood Event, leading to the Levee Sponsor submitting a Public Law (PL) 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance request to the US Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District.

Status Update:

03 February 2021 - The team is working through the contract close-out process.

08 September 2020 - This levee repair project was completed on 14 August 2020.

16 July 2020 - This levee repair is substantially complete. Remaining work includes repair of an access road that was impacted by the levee repair project. This is expected to be complete by the end of July 2020.

10 June 2020 - The levee system is at full height and clay has been placed on the levee face. This repair is approximately 98 percent complete with erosion control blanket and seeding and other minor activities remaining. The contract has been extended to replace topsoil on a section of the levee. The team is also working with the levee sponsor to address an access road that has been impacted by the levee repair efforts.

08 May 2020 - The levee system is at full height and clay has been placed on the levee face. This repair is approximately 70 percent complete with erosion control blanket and seeding and other minor activities remaining.

23 April 2020 - The contractor continues repairing the levee system and is approximately 65 percent complete with this levee repair project.

10 April 2020 - The contractor is continuing to place material and is approximately 55 percent complete with levee repairs.

16 March 2020 - Construction activities began on 06 March 2020 and the contractor is approximately 10 percent complete with levee repairs.

04 March 2020 - The levee repair construction contract was awarded on 20 February 2020 to Pruss Excavation of Dodge, NE for $1.26 million. The pre-construction meeting and notice to proceed are tentatively scheduled for this week.

13 February 2020 - The levee repair contract was advertised on 13 January 2020, pre-bid site visit conducted on 17 January and bid opening conducted on 28 January. The team is currently working through the contract award process.

31 January 2020 - The levee repair contract was advertised on 13 January 2020, pre-bid site visit conducted on 17 January and bid opening conducted on 28 January. The team is currently working through the contract award process.

10 January 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized with the adjacent property owners.

18 December 2019 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized with the adjacent property owners.

06 December 2019 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized with the adjacent property owners.

22 November 2019 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized with the adjacent property owners.

08 November 2019 - The team is finalizing the design and review process for this levee repair project. The advertisement of this construction contract is dependent on real estate documentation being finalized with the adjacent property owners.

24 October 2019 - The team is finalizing the design and review process for this levee repair project. The advertisement of this construction contract is dependent on real estate documentation being finalized with the adjacent property owners.

13 October 2019 - The team is working to finalize the design documents and is still anticipating awarding the repair construction contract in late-November.

27 September 2019 – Funds to repair the Ames Diking levee system have been received. The construction contract is scheduled to be awarded at the end of November.

13 September 2019 – The team is working to finalize the levee repair design for the Ames Diking levee system. It is anticipated that the contract for construction bids will be advertised in October.

06 September 2019 – The levee repair design is progressing and the team is still on schedule to award a construction contract this fall.

23 August 2019 – Team continues engineering and design work on repairs for the Ames Diking levee system. Upon completion of design this fall, a construction contract will be advertised and awarded to repair the system.

05 August 2019 – Engineering and Design (E&D) work continues for rehabilitating the Ames Diking levee system.  The team is now anticipating to be done with the E&D process this fall.

08 July 2019 – Engineering and Design (E&D) work is ongoing for rehabilitating the Ames Diking project. The team is anticipating to be done with the E&D process by late summer or early fall.

15 June 2019 – An initial site damage assessment and economic analysis has been completed. From this initial assessment the USACE team has determined that there are damages to the levee system that are eligible for PL 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance.
