The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, (Corps) is evaluating a request by Montana Freshwater Partners (MFP) to add an In-Lieu Fee (ILF) compensatory mitigation site to the Program’s Instrument, established in January 2013. The Proposed Site Plan (Plan) is the first phase of mitigation site evaluation and is intended to determine whether the site has enough potential to warrant development of a Draft Mitigation Site plan with significantly more detail. This notice is to inform interested parties of the proposed activity and to solicit comments. The purpose of the proposed Viking Creek Wetland and Stream Restoration Project is to restore and enhance the North and South Forks of Viking Creek and associated wetlands near Whitefish, MT (48.427212, -114.333503), to offset impacts to wetlands and streams in the Flathead Watershed (#4). The proposed project will offset lost stream and wetland functions and services that occurred as a result of permits issued in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
