L.G. Everist, Inc. requests authorization to expand operations at its quarry located southeast of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. The existing quarry is situated on the right bank (north side) of the Big Sioux River. Mining operations would be expanded eastward from the existing quarry and an earthen berm would be constructed around the expansion to protect operations from flooding. This would allow for the expansion of the pit and mine where the current plant is located. The proposed expansion would impact two existing tributaries of the Big Sioux River and adjacent wetlands. A new channel would be constructed to route flow around the new berm and expansion. This channel would parallel the new berm and would discharge into the Big Sioux River approximately 1,480 feet upstream of the original discharge point. The existing tributaries and wetlands would be filled or excavated to accommodate the expansion. Approximately 1.58 acres of wetlands would be impacted by the project. The Dell Rapids East Quarry Expansion Project is located directly east of the existing quarry in Sections 10 and 11, Township 104 North, Range 49 West, Minnehaha County, South Dakota.
