Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, CO

Environmental Compliance Program

Published April 6, 2015

Location and Description: Buckley Air Force Base is located in the Denver metropolitan area on the northeast side of the city of Aurora in Arapahoe County, CO.

The 460th Space Wing is the current host of the installation, and its mission is to provide combatant commanders with superior global surveillance, worldwide missile warning, expeditionary forces, and support to homeland defense missions. The installation houses diverse missions, military services, and components that include active-duty, National Guard, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, and Reserve personnel from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps to accomplish satellite support operations, fighter operations, installation support, and other important missions.

Activities: The Omaha District historically has provided limited support for Buckley AFB in its Environmental Compliance Program. The primary challenge is to maximize the resources and keep the district’s cost of doing business reasonable. So far, the Omaha District has been able to control the cost of doing business.

The USACE Omaha District assists with Buckley’s Environmental Restoration and Compliance Program (air, water, pollution prevention, natural resources, cultural resources, asbestos, solid waste, underground storage tank, and above-ground storage tank).
