Major Arlo Reese

Omaha District Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff

Maj. Arlo Reese became the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Omaha District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in March 2016. As Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff for the Omaha District, he oversees nearly 1,300 civilian and military personnel with elements in nine states. Reese assists the Commander in executing a $1 billion annual workload. The Omaha District manages military construction, civil works, and environmental restoration at more than 1,200 projects. The district also generates hydroelectric power at six major dams along the Missouri River and encompasses more than 700,000 square miles.

Reese was commissioned as a second lieutenant from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia in 1999.  Reese graduated from Clarion University in City, State, in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. He served as a high school math teacher for two years prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. Reese is originally from Hughesville, Pennsylvania, where most of his family still resides. 

His military assignments include Battalion Executive Officer and Brigade Engineer with 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain at Fort Drum; Company Commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 20th Engineer Brigade and Brigade Maintenance officer at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Company Executive Officer, Battalion Assistant Operations Officer at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Platoon leader with 44th Engineer Battalion, Korea. Reese’s most recent assignment was in the U.S. Army Training with Industry program with Caterpillar Inc., Peoria Illinois. 

Reese’s civilian education includes a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, and a Master of Science Degree in Material Engineering from North Carolina State University.  Reese’s military education includes Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne and Jumpmaster School. His operational deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq; and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. His military awards and decorations include the, Bronze Star (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and Senior Parachutist Badge.
