  • Lake Yankton Water Festival set for Saturday, June 20

    The Lake Yankton Water Festival is set for Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Training Dike Recreation area near Yankton, SD. The event will have games, prizes, crafts, demonstrations, and a paddling clinic.
  • Public meeting scheduled on Deadman's Run flood risk management feasibility study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District (NRD) and the city of Lincoln, will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the 4th Presbyterian Church, 5200 Francis Street, Lincoln, Neb. from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a brief presentation at 5:30 p.m. describing the study followed by an open house. The purpose of the meeting is to gather input on the recently initiated Deadmans Run flood risk management feasibility study. Deadman’s Run is located primarily in northeast Lincoln.
  • Heavy Rain in CO means more releases changes for Tri-Lakes Dams

    Heavy rain, which fell Thursday night, increased stages along Bear Creek, Cherry Creek, and the South Platte River downstream from the Tri-Lakes Dams.Releases at Chatfield Dam will be held at 1000 cfs through the weekend and will be gradually increased next week as downstream flows recede. Releases from Bear Creek Dam also remain at 200 cfs to allow flows on Bear Creek downstream of the dam to recede and will likely be increased on Saturday to 500 cfs. Releases from Cherry Creek Dam will be held at 50 cfs today due to high flows on Cherry Creek between the dam and the South Platte River. Releases will likely be increased to 100 cfs tomorrow to allow for future flexibility for flood risk management at the dam.

    Crest Road, the road that crosses the Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D., will be closed 8 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2015 through 5 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015. This closure will include nighttime hours. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time.
  • Releases from Tri-Lakes Dams reduced to accommodate rainfall

    In anticipation of forecast rainfall today, releases from Chatfield and Bear Creek Dams will be reduced to mitigate flood risk in the Denver area. At Bear Creek Dam, releases will be reduced from 500 cfs to 200 cfs this afternoon. At Cherry Creek Dam, releases remain unchanged at 50 cfs.

  • Cherry Creek Dam Crest Road to close for dam safety instrumentation and maintenance project

    The Crest Road at Cherry Creek Dam will be closed from June 22 through July 12 to accommodate work that will be taking place adjacent to the crest road. The bike path at the downstream toe of the dam will remain open through construction. Crews will install two new groundwater observation wells, known as piezometers and remove 14 existing piezometers that are more than 60 years old from service and are no longer functional or needed. Crews will also be performing maintenance work on relief wells along the toe of the dam.
  • Jamestown Dam flood storage nearly evacuated

    Jamestown Dam flood storage is nearly evacuated, with the pool elevation near the summer target of 1431 feet. Pipestem Dam releases will begin today to evacuate flood storage as outlined in the water control manual. Jamestown Dam releases are being decreased from 300 cubic feet per second to 125 cfs today while Pipestem Dam will increase releases to 160 cfs. The combined release will be 285 cfs.
