PICKSTOWN, S.D. -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District officials are responding to an incident involving a contractor crane that tipped over Monday afternoon at Fort Randall Dam.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on the bridge deck of the dam’s intake structure. Emergency responders assisted the crane operator, who was transported to a local hospital. No further medical information is available currently.
A preliminary review indicates no threat to the dam’s structural integrity or to public safety. USACE personnel are working with contractors and local responders to assess the site and determine next steps.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Fort Randall Dam is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the Missouri River mainstem system for flood risk management, hydropower and other authorized purposes.
