OMAHA, Neb. – Col. Robert J. Newbauer, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, will be available to provide updates regarding the June 2024 Severe Weather event at 1:30 p.m. today at the Missouri River Project Office located at 9901 John J Pershing Dr. near the Mormon Bridge in Omaha, Nebraska.

John J Pershing Dr. is currently closed due to flooding. However, media will be allowed access by law enforcement at a checkpoint prior to reaching the location of the media availability. The commander will be arriving by helicopter and media will be directed where to park upon arrival.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) top priority is public safety as well as providing all the assistance and expertise, as authorized, to reduce the threat to life and property. We’re doing that by proactively sharing world-class technical expertise and data with the community at all levels while ensuring they know what support USACE can provide and how to request it. This encompasses everything from providing flood fight equipment to technical assistance to understand the conditions. River crest predictions and timeframes are provided by the National Weather Service as the official forecaster, so community leaders can make the best decisions.

Please contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District Public Affairs office at (531) 232-4284 for additional information.
