    Omaha District executes historic $1.65 billion program

    There were many challenges this year; recovering from the catastrophic Lower Missouri River Basin flooding event of 2019, protecting the workforce and public safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, and hurricane first responder deployments. But in the face of unprecedented adversity, USACE Omaha District rose to each challenge through leveraging industrious teamwork and continuing to successfully support its worldwide missions. The District ended the year executing its largest program ever at $1.65 billion.

    Corps’ Omaha District spotlights energy efficient, environmentally sustainable headquarters for 50th anniversary of Earth Day

    Built in 1958, the original Zorinsky Building, home to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District’s headquarters, was erected before the modern world embraced the environmental movement. Since the first Earth Day in 1970, renovations to the 432,000 square-foot building managed by the Government Services Administration have been implemented based on the standards and criteria of the U.S. Green Council’s Sustainability Program to make the building more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

    Omaha District wins “Building the Future” Award

    The White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Office of Federal Sustainability hosted the 2016 GreenGov Presidential Awards, recognizing 12 agencies, individuals or facilities from across the U.S. Government. The award ceremony took place September 7th at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C. The “Building the Future” award went to Project Delivery Team for the 4th Infantry Division’s Aviation Support Battalion’s new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certified helicopter maintenance hangar located in Fort Carson, Colorado.
