Draft feasibility report for stream bank restoration near Wisner, Neb. available for review

A draft feasibility report and environmental assessment (EA) for stream bank restoration southwest of Wisner, Neb. is currently available for public review. The report identifies alternatives to provide stream bank protection and prohibit further rapid erosion on the right-descending bank of the Elkhorn River, Cuming County, Neb. Public infrastructure being protected includes the Cuming County Road 6 bridge and roadway. [Read More]

Omaha District Readiness Branch providing assistance in Montana and Wyoming

Warmer temperatures are leading to flooding in parts of Wyoming and Montana along the Bighorn River, Little Bighorn River, Pryor Creek and tributaries of the Yellowstone River. In response to requests from the Crow Nation for sandbags, the State of Montana for ice jam technical assistance on the Mussellshell River, and from the State of Wyoming for technical assistance regarding an ice jam and flooding in north-central Wyoming along the Bighorn River, the Omaha District Readiness Branch has activated its Emergency Operations Center to Level II, Emergency Watch Status and is communicating directly with the National Weather Service for updated river stage forecasts. The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center near Yankton, S.D. will be closed the following days: Friday, Feb. 28, Thursday, Mar. 6 from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., and Tuesday and Wednesday, March 18 and 19. [Read More]

Garrison powerhouse summer tour schedule updated

Walk-in tours of the Garrison Dam will be available from June 5 through August 2. Tours will be held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 2 p.m., Central Daylight Time. Due to increased security, visitors for powerhouse tours should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the tour and visitors over 18 years old must show a government issued photo ID. Public scoping meeting scheduled for proposed shallow water habitat projects at Brownville and Langdon Bends

A public scoping meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Brownville Concert Hall, 126 Atlantic Street, Brownville, Neb. The purpose of the meeting is to seek public input on the development of two proposed shallow water habitat projects: Brownville Bend located a half mile south of Brownville, and Langdon Bend located two miles east of Nemaha, Neb. The meeting will be hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. [Read More]

April 25, 2014 set for the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Denver Water’s Moffat Collection System Project. Bald Eagle Days at Gavins Point Dam scheduled for Jan. 25 and 26

Bald Eagle Days, sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service, is set for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26 at the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center at Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D. The programs will be at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. 3 p.m. each day and are free to the public. The programs will feature several live raptors, including a Bald Eagle.
