  • Safety updates for Standing Bear Lake Draft Environmental Assessment

    OMAHA, Neb. --The recent announcement for proposed recreational and fishery improvements at Standing Bear Lake has led to many questions concerning trail access at the lake during the construction period. 

  • Pipestem Reservoir reaches expected summer release

    Reservoir releases are being increased from Pipestem Dam to its expected summer release. The current pool elevation at Pipestem Dam is 1478.5 feet, almost 51% into its flood pool. Lake levels peaked this year on June 3 at 1479.4 feet, almost 53% into its flood pool. Today, releases are being increased from 450 cubic feet per second to 550 cfs. This release is expected to stay constant for the remainder of the summer. The target date for flood control evacuation at Pipestem Dam is Sept. 1.

  • Glenn Cunningham Reservoir to begin to fill naturally

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will shut the outflow gate at Glenn Cunningham Reservoir on June 1, to allow the lake to begin to refill naturally. It is anticipated that with typical weather conditions the lake will reach full conservation pool by early spring 2021.

  • Corps awards contract to complete levee repairs on the Missouri River L-536 levee system north of Corning, Missouri

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,  Omaha District, awarded a $8.74 million construction contract to AECOM Technical Services, Inc. of Los Angeles, California, Tuesday, to close the remaining breaches and making final repairs on the Missouri River L-536 levee system north of Corning, Missouri.  The L-536 system is the last remaining Missouri River levee damaged by the March 2019 flood event in need of full repair.

  • Low-level release at Zorinsky Lake set for May 1

    OMAHA, Neb. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, will begin a small low-level release at Zorinsky Lake in Omaha on Friday to improve the water quality of the lake.

  • Releases lowered at Jamestown, Pipestem reservoirs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announced Wednesday that reservoir releases out of Jamestown and Pipestem reservoirs have been reduced to zero.

  • Omaha District completes three tributary levee repair projects

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Omaha District has completed repairs to levees damaged on three of the tributaries of the Missouri River ahead of schedule.

  • USACE Omaha lowering Cold Brook Lake level five feet

    A small release will be initiated Monday, Oct. 21, at Cold Brook Lake near Hot Springs, South Dakota, to lower the lake five feet.

  • Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs Update

    Inflows to Jamestown Reservoir due to snowmelt have remained higher than expected. As a result, reservoir water releases will increase to 600 cubic-feet-per-second on April 22. Pipestem Reservoir is currently at a pool elevation 1467.9 feet which is approximately 30% of the reservoir’s capacity.

  • Record of Decision signed for Missouri River Recovery Management Plan, Environmental Impact Statement

    OMAHA, Neb.—U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Northwestern Division Commander Brig. Gen. D. Peter Helmlinger signed a ‘Record of Decision’ for the Missouri River Recovery Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement Tuesday.
