  • Release plan announced for Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs

    Snowmelt inflow is expected to begin at Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs in the next week. Combined releases from the reservoirs are currently expected to stay below 1200 cubic feet per second (cfs) with snowpack conditions being compared to 2001. Significant additional rainfall or snow may necessitate higher release levels.

  • Big Bend's Left Tailrace Campground reopening delayed

    The Left Tailrace Campground at the Big Bend Dam has remained closed since flooding in 2011. The flooding caused extensive damage requiring repairs that begin in mid 2012. The reopening is scheduled for early May however, technical difficulties and inclement weather have led to delays in contract completion. Prior to making travel arrangements, visitors should call the Big Bend Project Office or check online for campground status updates.

  • Construction projects impact water-based facilities at some Gavins Point recreation areas

    Due to an ongoing construction project, all recreation areas below Gavins Point Dam that are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be without water-based facilities until approximately Memorial Day weekend. While the parks will remain open, some facilities within the parks will be closed.

  • Boaters, Anglers, and Hunters: Beware of Cold Water

    With the ice now off most local area rivers and lakes boaters, anglers, and hunters need to take extra precautions when around water during this time of year. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is the largest federal provider of outdoor recreation opportunities, cautions outdoor recreationists to protect themselves against cold water immersion and hypothermia.

  • Weather alters schedule; spillway flow test scheduled at Gavins Point Dam April 16

    The spillway flow test at Gavins Point Dam, originally scheduled for April 10, 2013, is rescheduled due to inclement weather. The new test date is Tuesday, April 16, 2013. As part of the ongoing rehabilitation and repair of the damage from the Missouri River Flood of 2011, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, will temporarily shift discharges out of Gavins Point Dam from the powerhouse to the spillway.

  • Public reminded about risks of living behind levees, below dams

    Dry conditions throughout the Missouri River basin since last summer might lead some communities throughout the Missouri River basin to believe that the risk of flooding is nonexistent this year. The risk of flooding still remains even during a drought, particularly due to isolated thunderstorms in areas below Gavins Point Dam where the Corps does not have a way to regulate the runoff. Residents throughout the basin are reminded to remain vigilant even during this drought period.

  • Spillway flow test at Gavins Point Dam postponed due to inclement weather

    The spillway flow test which was scheduled for April 10 at Gavins Point Dam has been postponed due to inclement weather. The new test date is Tuesday April 16. The purpose of the test is to gain additional information on the current condition of the spillway after interim repairs have been made. The test is being conducted as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and repair of the damage from the Missouri River Flood of 2011.

  • Spillway flow test for repair and rehabilitation to be conducted at Gavins Point Dam

    As part of the ongoing rehabilitation and repair of the damage from the Missouri River Flood of 2011, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, will temporarily shift discharges out of Gavins Point Dam from the powerhouse to the spillway on Wednesday, April 10 to conduct a spillway flow test. The purpose of the test is to gain additional information on the current condition of the spillway.

  • Public Meeting Scheduled for Indian Cave Shallow Water Habitat Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will hold a public scoping meeting on Monday, Apr. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Shubert Community Building, located on the corner of 5th and Main Streets, in Shubert, Neb. The purpose of the meeting is to seek public input on the development of potential restoration and mitigation measures for a proposed shallow water habitat project at Indian Cave State Park.

  • Corps to initiate releases at Pipestem Reservoir

    Pipestem Reservoir will be initiating a water quality release of 25 cubic feet per second (cfs) on Tuesday, April 2. Pipestem Reservoir is currently at pool elevation 1442.6 feet with approximately 2 cfs inflow and outflow.Jamestown Reservoir is currently at pool elevation 1429.7 feet with approximately 0 cfs inflow and outflow.
