YANKTON, S. D. - Due to an ongoing construction project, all recreation areas below Gavins Point Dam that are operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be without water-based facilities until approximately Memorial Day weekend.
While the parks will remain open, some facilities within the parks will be closed. This will include:
  • The flush restroom and water hydrants in Cottonwood Day Use Area
  • Flush restrooms, water hydrants, the fish cleaning station, and the beach shower house in the Training Dike Recreation Area
  • Cottonwood Campground will remain open for free camping without water-based facilities. Electricity will remain available. The shower houses, flush restrooms and hydrants will be closed
  • Vault toilets will remain open in all areas.
The closure will NOT affect Nebraska Tailwaters Campground, and Day Use Area, or the fish cleaning station on Highway 121.
Anyone with questions about the closures can contact the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center at 402-667-2546.
