Corps provides update regarding system restoration activities
Due to record unregulated runoffs across Nebraska and Iowa, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District has deployed teams across the Upper Missouri River Basin to continue to provide both technical and direct support.

USACE NWO continues flood fight partnerships
There are confirmed breaches at L611-614 (south of Council Bluffs, Iowa), L-601 (south of Glenwood, Iowa), L-575 (Fremont County, Iowa), L-550 (Atchison County, Missouri), R-562 (Nemaha County, Nebraska), Western Sarpy (Ashland, Nebraska), Clear Creek (Ashland, Nebraska), Union Levee (Valley, Nebraska). Partial breaches have been confirmed at river miles; L-594 (Fremont County, Iowa), R-573 (Otoe County, Nebraska). Additional breaches are expected as a result of the extremely high flows.

OMAHA, Neb.—U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Northwestern Division Commander Brig. Gen. D. Peter Helmlinger signed a ‘Record of Decision’ for the Missouri River Recovery Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement Tuesday.

Missouri River sandbars closed during nesting season
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds residents that many sandbars with active piping plover and interior least tern nests are closed for recreational use during the nesting season which runs from mid-May through August

Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee continues work on strategic plan
At this meeting, MRRIC discussed and reached initial consensus on recommendations to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, regarding the Missouri River Recovery Program draft strategic plan. The recommendations address a range of issues including actions for the three threatened and endangered species, suggestions for best scientific and adaptive management practices, and support for communication and collaboration.

Tribes continue work with Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee on strategic plan
The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee held its 41st meeting here May 22-24. Tribes were represented by John Fox, Osage Nation; Randy Teboe, Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska; Elizabeth Wakeman, Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe; Shannon Wright, Ponca Tribe of Nebraska; Alan Kelley, Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska; and Kyle White, Oglala Sioux Tribe.
