Cherry Creek and Bear Creek Dams begin making small water releases

To meet water supply requirements in the Denver area, two of the three Denver-area reservoirs operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District will begin making small water releases today. Chatfield Lake remains 5.5 feet below the base of the flood control pool and no releases are scheduled. Releases from Bear Creek Dam will be 250 cubic feet per second and releases from Cherry Creek Dam will be 40 cfs, both beginning today. Over the next several days, coordination with the State of Colorado will continue, and it is likely releases will be gradually increased in order to evacuate flood control storage from these reservoirs.

Annual sediment flushing exercise scheduled at Cherry Creek Reservoir

The annual sediment flushing exercise will be completed at Cherry Creek Reservoir on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. A release of 50 cubic feet per second will be made at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 until the flush begins. The actual flushing exercise will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 22.

New relief wells to be installed at Cherry Creek

The Drill Crew Unit of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, will be performing drilling work at Cherry Creek Dam in Arapahoe County, Colorado over the next four to five weeks. The Corps will install 12 to 14 new relief wells immediately downstream of the dam embankment adjacent to Interstate 225.
