    USACE-NWO announces new contract process to speed up levee repair awards

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Omaha District is rolling out an innovative contracting methodology to expedite the process of awarding contracts for repairing levees damaged by the spring floods. The new method will increase USACE’s ability to ensure that only capable, vetted contractors have the ability to bid these projects.

    Corps of Engineers awards $2.8 million contract for breach repairs on levee L575 in southwestern Iowa

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, awarded a $2,767,413 contract Wednesday to build up the elevation on previously closed breach L575a near Percival Iowa, and on breach 575b near Hamburg, Iowa expected to be closed in the next few days.

    Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment for operation and maintenance repairs at Council Bend available for public review

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment to evaluate the impacts of stabilizing the Council Bend chute in Pottawattamie County, Iowa is currently available for public review. This supplemental EA specifically evaluates activities required to maintain the ecological function of the chute without adversely impacting the Missouri River authorized purposes including flood risk management. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than Aug. 9, 2019.

    Draft Environmental Assessment for Sioux Falls, South Dakota drainage improvement project available for comment

    A draft environmental assessment for a proposal to improve an existing concrete weir structure located within the city of Sioux Falls near the Big Sioux River levee is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of modifying the shape of the weir to include widening the base to allow for improved flow through the existing oxbow wetland, improve interior drainage, and reduce flooding of nearby buildings. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than Aug. 9, 2019.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District, in cooperation with the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District, will host a public open house to share information about the Papillion Creek Basin flood risk management study July 23, 2019.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District completed the initial breach closure on levee breach L-601-C, an inlet breach near Bartlett, Iowa Wednesday.

    After closing in May due to high water, the Left Tailrace Campground at Big Bend Project, Fort Thompson, South Dakota,  will reopen on Thursday, June 27th.

    Corps completes breach closure on levee L594-B southwest of Bartlett, Iowa

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District completed an initial breach closure on levee L594-B, an inlet breach near Bartlett, Iowa Thursday. Completion of final construction activities, i.e. surfacing, seeding, etc. is anticipated by early next week.

    Corps provides Jamestown and Pipestem reservoirs update

    Pipestem Reservoir has initiated summer releases to evacuate flood control storage by a target date of Sept. 1, 2019. Releases were increased to 200 cfs Thursday, and will be stepped up to the expected summer release of 450 cfs Friday.
