    After a season of virtual-only updates, USACE Missouri River water managers look forward to meeting with members of the public in person this spring. The public is invited to join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local weather experts for a series of briefings on the 2026 runoff season, reservoir status, and our planned operations for the year ahead.
  • Dry outlook persists for Missouri River despite early spring runoff; Navigation support to begin mid-March

    Warm February temperatures triggered early snowmelt and runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa, but the overall 2026 runoff forecast remains well below average. February runoff was 1.3 million acre-feet, 113% of average. Despite this above average runoff in the Garrison, Oahe, and Gavins Point reaches, the full-year runoff forecast above Sioux City, Iowa is 20.6 MAF, 80% of average.
  • Prescribed burns at Oahe Dam scheduled for April 7

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service and local volunteer fire departments, have scheduled prescribed burns on the Oahe Dam for April 7, 2025, that will cause traffic restrictions to Highway 1806 and Crest Road (Highway 204).
  • Maintenance project will close sections of Lake Oahe Project’s West Shore Mountain Bike Trail

    A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintenance project to stabilize the banks of the Oahe Dam’s emergency spillway will require sections of the Lake Oahe Project’s West Shore Mountain Bike Trail to close for the public’s safety beginning November 10.
  • Yes, the outlet tunnels at Oahe are releasing water

    A combination of planned maintenance and an unscheduled turbine outage at Oahe will result in outlet tunnel operations beginning today. Starting at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 16, the outlet tunnels at Oahe will be releasing 8,000 cubic feet per second of the daily average 31,300 cfs releases.
  • Oahe Project Resumes Powerhouse Tours; Visitor Center Summer Hours Set

    The Oahe Project is once again offering tours of the Oahe Powerhouse. Public walk-in tours will be available Tuesday through Saturday beginning May 28 or June 4 and ending on September 6. Tours will start at the Oahe Visitor Center on top of the east end of the dam along Highway 1804.
  • Oahe Dam planning prescribed grassland, dam embankment burns

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District announces, in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks and local volunteer fire departments, plans to conduct several prescribed fires on USACE property around Oahe Dam in the coming weeks.
