    Friendly competition part of sturgeon broodstock collection

    Each year, personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District participate with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to assist with an effort to collect and ship reproductive-ready pallid sturgeon to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hatchery near Gavins Point Dam or Missouri Department of Conservation’s Blind Pony State Fish Hatchery.
  • Discovering a steamboat relic of Missouri River trade

    When you think of shipwrecks, it might be pirates, the ocean, sunken treasure and the stuff of movie–style wonder. But the Mighty Mo’ tells a tale with hundreds of shipwrecks of all sizes along its length. For the Corps, there are several responsibilities: regulatory permitting for construction in areas where a discovery may occur, the need to mitigate a construction project to address a discovery and the need to protect and respect the significance of a discovery among others.

    Operation Santa brings gifts and music to special local groups

    On Dec. 13, volunteers from the Northwestern Division and Omaha District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers visited the Glenwood Resource Center in Glenwood, Iowa. The group came carrying presents for the patients and clients, sang carols and helped with a party for the participants. Volunteers, residents and the staff at Glenwood look forward to the annual get together.

    Omaha District supports Missouri River Relief cleanup event

    For the fourth time, volunteers from around the Omaha and Council Bluffs area came together to support the organization, Missouri River Relief and help clean up the banks of the Missouri River. On Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, more than 200 volunteers collected massive amounts of junk that had been washed down the river after last year's flooding.
