    PERSONAL VIGNETTE: Ensuring safety of disaster response volunteers is a mission within a mission

    As public affairs specialists with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, we are used to helping craft messages like “safety is our top priority” and “we are committed to keeping our team safe” but while developing messaging and talking points is part of our normal duties, it is not often that we are on the receiving end of our own words. Developing COVID-19 safety messaging in the Hurricane Ida disaster response was a game changer and our “talking points” have become real-life reminders of what we need to stay safe, while helping others.
  • USACE set to complete Lower Yellowstone irrigation, fish bypass project on schedule

    The Omaha District’s Lower Yellowstone irrigation project in south eastern Montana is on budget and on schedule at approximately 85 percent completion. This civil works construction project began in early 2019 after the Bureau of Reclamation reached out to the District to replace an existing, outdated diversion dam.

    USACE completes new high-altitude research laboratory on Pikes Peak

    The Army’s new high-altitude research laboratory at the top of Pikes Peak in Cascade, Colorado, was officially completed on July 1, and is the highest facility of its kind in North America. Built by members from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District’s Ft. Carson Resident Office team for the U.S. Army Research Institute for Environmental Medicine, this new lab will greatly enhance research to optimize Soldiers’ health and strengthen today’s warfighter.
  • Air Force Academy, USACE break ground on new cyber facility

    The Stillman parade field on the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was the site of a groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 6 for the new Madera Cyber Innovation Center. U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent, U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark hosted the afternoon event before a group of Servicemembers, distinguished guests and civilians.

    Acting Assistant Secretary of Army for Civil Works Visits Omaha District

    Mr. Jaime A. Pinkham, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, visited the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District from July 7 to 9 to learn more about the District’s programs and operations.
