USACE Omaha District Photos

Oahe Dam after snow melt
Oahe Dam is operated to store additional inflow from rain or snowmelt to reduce flood risks to downstream communities. USACE can release additional water downstream through six regulatory outlet tunnels when the powerhouse is shut down for maintenance or when high reservoir levels need to be lowered to reduce risks to the dam.
