FORT MCCOY, Wisc. --
The Environmental Division of the Directorate of Public Works at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) to aid in the decision-making process and inform the public of likely environmental consequences associated with the Burma Road Rehabilitation Project located on Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. The draft reports conclude that the proposed action would not have a significant environmental impact.
There is a need to rehabilitate Burma Road because it is the only north-south route on the west side of Fort McCoy and provides access to vital training ranges. The proposed project would replace the existing gravel road with a new asphalt roadway with improved geometrics to accommodate a 45 mph design speed (30 mph for military vehicles) and could be cleared safely by snow removal equipment during the winter so that the roadway may remain open year round.
The public is invited to review and comment on the proposed project. Copies of the Draft EA and Draft FONSI are available at the Sparta and Tomah Public Libraries. All comments will be accepted for 30 days from the publication date of this notice. Direct comments or requests to:
