Western Sarpy Levee Restoration Information

Background: The Western Sarpy – Platte River Left Bank Levee System was damaged during the 2019 Flood Event, leading to the Levee Sponsor submitting a Public Law (PL) 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance request to the US Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District.

Current Action:  Complete the levee repair construction contract.

Status Updates:

08 May 2020 - The levee repair contract is complete.

23 April 2020 - The levee repair contract is substantially complete with the pre-final inspection scheduled for this week and the final inspection scheduled for the week of 27 April 2020.

10 April 2020 - Work on the Western Sarpy levee repair contract is substantially complete with the exception of final seeding and erosion control in the spring. A scope modification was approved to include repair of two additional scour locations, with work beginning this week.

16 March 2020 - Work on the Western Sarpy levee repair contract is substantially complete with the exception of final seeding and erosion control in the spring. A scope modification is pending approval to include repair of two additional scour locations.

04 March 2020 - Work on the Western Sarpy levee repair contract is substantially complete with the exception of final seeding and erosion control in the spring. A scope modification is pending approval to include repair of two additional scour locations.

13 February 2020 - Work on the Western Sarpy levee repair contract is substantially complete with the exception of final seeding and erosion control in the spring.

31 January 2020 - The contractor is approximately 95 percent complete with levee repairs and is expected to be substantially complete in early to mid-February 2020.

10 January 2020 - The contractor is approximately 65 percent complete with levee repairs and is expected to be substantially complete in early calendar year 2020.

18 December 2019 - The contractor is approximately 35 percent complete with levee repairs and is expected to be substantially complete in early calendar year 2020.

06 December 2019 - The contractor is approximately 30 percent complete with levee repairs and is expected to be substantially complete in early calendar year 2020.

22 November 2019 - The contractor has begun work on levee repairs including tree removal and stockpiling riprap.

08 November 2019 - The contractor mobilized to the project site on 04 November 2019 and has begun work on levee repairs.

24 October 2019 - The contractor is scheduled to mobilize to the project site on 28 October 2019 to begin repairs.

13 October 2019 - A pre-construction team meeting was held on Oct. 9, 2019, and the contractor was issued notice to proceed with repairs.  The contractor is preparing to mobilize to begin construction.

27 September 2019 – The levee repair contract was awarded to Valley Corporation of Valley, NE on 25 September 2019 in the amount of $4,235,783 with a period of performance of 120 calendar days.

13 September 2019 – The team is currently awaiting construction funds from USACE HQ. Once funds are received, the team anticipates awarding a construction contract by the end of the month.

04 September 2019 – Correction. The bid opening occurred on 03 September 2019 and the construction contract is anticipated to be awarded in the next few weeks.

29 August 2019 – The site walk with contractors was conducted on 29 August 2019. The contract will be awarded 03 September 2019. 

23 August 2019 – A construction contract to repair the Western Sarpy levee system was advertised to pre-qualified contractors on 19 August 2019 with award anticipated around 03 September 2019. 

05 Aug 2019 – The USACE Design team and Levee Sponsor conducted a “Plan In-Hand” review of the repair design documents on 24 July 2019. These reviews are conducted to ensure that the team is developing a technically feasible and acceptable design. Engineering and Design (E&D) work continues for rehabilitating the Western Sarpy levee system. The team is still anticipating to be done with the E&D process by early fall.

08 July 2019 – Engineering and Design (E&D) work is on-going for rehabilitating the Western Sarpy project. The team is anticipating to be done with the E&D process by late summer or early fall.

15 June 2019 – An initial site damage assessment and economic analysis has been completed. From this initial assessment the USACE team has determined that there are damages to the levee system that are eligible for PL 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance.
