Wakefield Restoration Information

Background: The Wakefield - Logan Creek Right Bank (Non-Federal) Levee System was damaged during the 2019 Flood Event, leading to the Project Sponsor submitting a Public Law (PL) 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance request to the US Army Corps of Engineers – Omaha District.

Current Action:  Repair the levee system to its authorized level of flood risk management.

Status Updates:

03 February 2021 - The final levee repair project is substantially complete with pre-final inspection occurring on 05 January 2021.

08 September 2020 - The contractor is approximately 32 percent complete with the final levee repair project. Current efforts are focused on placing riprap at identified damage locations.

16 July 2020 - The contractor is approximately 10 percent complete with the final levee repair project.

10 June 2020 - The contractor is approximately 10 percent complete with the final levee repair project.

08 May 2020 - The pre-construction meeting was held on 07 May 2020, and the period of performance is 180 calendar days after notice to proceed is issued to the contractor.

23 April 2020 - The levee repair contract was awarded to Valley Corporation Inc. of Valley, NE in the amount of $3,125,017. The period of performance is 180 calendar days after notice to proceed is issued to the contractor.

10 April 2020 - The levee repair contract was advertised on 31 March 2020, and the bid opening is scheduled for 16 April 2020.

16 March 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

04 March 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

13 February 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

31 January 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

10 January 2020 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

18 December 2019 - The construction contract will be advertised once real estate documentation is finalized.

06 December 2019 - The team is finalizing the design for this levee repair project and still anticipates awarding the construction contract in early calendar year 2020.

22 November 2019 - The team is finalizing the design for this levee repair project and still anticipates awarding the construction contract in early calendar year 2020.

08 November 2019 - The team continues to work through the design and review process for this levee repair project, but is now anticipating awarding the construction contract in early calendar year 2020.

24 October 2019 - The team continues to work through the design and review process for this levee repair project, but is now anticipating awarding the construction contract in early calendar year 2020.

13 October 2019 - The 90% levee repair design is still on schedule for this month.  The team is still anticipating awarding the levee repair construction contract by the end of the calendar year.

27 September 2019 – The 90% levee repair design plan is anticipated to be complete in early October. Following technical review of the plan, a construction contract for repairs is anticipated to be awarded in December.

13 September 2019 – The team continues to refine the levee repair design for the Wakefield levee system.  It is anticipated that this construction contract will be advertised by late-fall or early-winter.

06 September 2019 – The Omaha District has partnered with the USACE Portland District to help complete the E&D effort as quickly and efficiently as possible.  The levee repair design is anticipated to be complete in November with the team targeting the award of the contract by the end of the calendar year.

23 August 2019 – Team continues engineering and design work on repairs for the Wakefield levee system. Upon completion of design by the end of 2019, a construction contract will be advertised and awarded to repair the system.

05 August 2019 – Engineering and Design (E&D) work continues for rehabilitating the Wakefield levee system. The team is still anticipating to be done with the E&D process by the end of the calendar year.

16 July 2019 – An initial site damage assessment and economic analysis has been completed. From this initial assessment the USACE team has determined that there are damages to the levee system that are eligible for PL 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance. Engineering and Design (E&D) work is on-going for rehabilitating the Wakefield Levee System. The team is anticipating to be done with the E&D process for repairing the damage identified by the end of the calendar year 2019.
