03 February 2021 - The final design package to raise the levee to elevation 919 feet is complete. This project is finalizing coordination efforts with the Iowa State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO). This will be the first project to utilize the Section 1176 Authority from the 2016 Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act to raise the level of protection of a levee system. The current schedule is to advertise this construction contract this month, pending successful resolution of Iowa SHPO coordination.

08 September 2020 - The team is currently working on the final design package to raise the levee to elevation 919 feet. The construction contract for this project is currently scheduled to be awarded Fall of 2020.

16 July 2020 - The 60-percent design to raise the levee to elevation 919' is on schedule to be complete by the end of July 2020. The construction contract for this project is currently scheduled to be awarded Fall of 2020.

10 June 2020 - The preliminary design to raise the levee was completed on 03 June 2020 and is currently under review. The USACE team, in collaboration with the levee sponsor and stakeholders, determined that the levee will be repaired along its existing alignment instead of potentially realigning the levee. 

08 May 2020 - Geotechnical investigations and survey work are complete. The information gathered will be used to complete the levee repair design.

23 April 2020 - Geotechnical investigations and survey work are complete. The information gathered will be used to complete the levee repair design.

10 April 2020 - Geotechnical investigations and survey work began on 06 April 2020. The information gathered will be used to complete the levee repair design.

16 March 2020 - The Omaha District and levee sponsor are preparing to begin the geotechnical investigations for this project.

04 March 2020 - The Omaha District and levee sponsor are preparing to begin the project design through the Section 1176 authority.

13 February 2020 - The Omaha District is continuing to work the Section 1176 process closely with levee sponsors and stakeholders.

31 January 2020 - The Omaha District is continuing to work the Section 1176 process closely with levee sponsors and stakeholders.

10 January 2020 - The Omaha District is continuing to work the Section 1176 process with the City of Hamburg.

18 December 2019 - The Omaha District received a Section 1176 request from the City of Hamburg and is currently working with HQUSACE to finalize implementation guidance for the Section 1176 authority. The request is to rebuild the levee to a higher elevation than its current authorized level. The Section 1176 authority requires a levee sponsor to pay 100 percent of the costs to build the levee beyond its currently authorized elevation, including review of impacts.

13 October 2019 - The Levee Sponsor (City of Hamburg) and USACE team agreed to delay repairs on the Hamburg-Ditch 6 levee system until next year.  This decision was made to because the team felt that it was best to keep the emergency repairs made to the Ditch 6 levee system in place during this period of elevated flood risk.

27 September 2019 – The levee repair contract was awarded to Klutina River Constructors of Irvine, CA on 21 September 2019 in the amount of $3,777,863 with a period of performance of 120 calendar days.

13 September 2019 – It is anticipated that the Hamburg – Ditch 6 Levee Repair project will be awarded by the end of the month. The Corps team has been coordinating closely with the stakeholder to ensure the construction process will align with local and state efforts to provide a satisfactory level of flood risk management provided by the Hamburg - Ditch 6 Levee System and to ensure repair work will integrate with any future efforts.

04 September 2019 – The team is finalizing the design and construction contract documents, and the official request for proposals is expected to be sent out by the end of this week. This schedule will allow for the construction contract to be awarded by mid-to-late September.

01 August 2019 – An initial site damage assessment and economic analysis has been completed.  From this initial assessment the USACE team has determined that there are damages to the levee system that are eligible for PL 84-99 Rehabilitation Assistance. Engineering and Design (E&D) work is being initiated for rehabilitating the Hamburg – Ditch 6 levee system.
