The District Engineer is evaluating a proposal from the North Dakota Department of Transportation to widen US Highway 85 to 4 lanes from the Little Missouri River to McKenzie County Road 30. The project is a phase of the overall US Highway 85 4-lane Project included in the EIS completed by FHWA/NDDOT in 2019. This phase would consist of four 12-foot-wide driving lanes, various median configurations depending on terrain, shoulders and an 8-foot-wide pedestrian trail. In addition to the Spring Creek bridge being replaced with box culverts, 61 centerline culverts would be extended, 22 new centerline culvert would be installed and several approach culverts would be extended or placed. The project would result in permanent loss of 2.61 acres of waters of the US.
