Stalp Gravel Company proposes to expand the existing sand and gravel mining operation at the West Point facility. The entire West Point facility is 450 acres in size and the expansion will encompass an area of approximately 145 acres. Mining operation will generally consist of excavating soil overburden until substantial deposit of sand and gravel materials are exposed. Once overburden has been removed, the depression fills with groundwater and mining starts. Sand and gravel deposits will be hydraulically dredged from the pit in a slurry form and transferred to sieve system that sorts by product size. Water and waste sand will be returned back into the sand and gravel pit.
