Omaha District hosts Equal Employment Opportunity counselor course

OMAHA, Neb. -- A dozen U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees from multiple districts and an employee from Arlington National Cemetery traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to attend the Department of the Army’s Equal Employment Opportunity Counselors Certification Course, May 19-23, 2025.

Hosted by the Omaha District, the course is a requirement for all Department of the Army EEO professionals to obtain certification to properly counsel and process EEO complaints of discrimination.

“The training is necessary to help counselors reach a greater level of understanding and effectiveness to resolve EEO complaints expeditiously, fairly, informally and at the lowest possible organizational level within the Department of the Army,” said Donna Surratt, USACE Omaha District equal employment opportunity specialist.

“The course provides the Department of the Army’s method of training specifically tailored to the procedures used by the Army to acquire a corps of certified EEO counselors who bring a uniformity of procedure and skill to Army installations worldwide,” Surratt added.

The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity provides leadership and direction in creating and sustaining a workforce and environment free of discrimination. This is achieved through policy development, oversight, complaints prevention, outreach, education and training programs.
